With the Golden Library now closed for remodeling, here is some important information regarding how to place and pickup holds.

The Bookmobile will visit the Golden Library parking lot three times a week (on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays). During these bookmobile stops you will be able to pick up your holds, check out new items, and return items. All items currently on hold that are not picked up by the close of business on March 19 will be transferred automatically to the Golden Bookmobile stop, unless you change the pickup location. To place a hold, choose “Golden Bookmobile” as your pickup location in the catalog requests.  You can change the pickup location online in My Account or by calling 303-235-5275.

Bookmobile Visits:

Golden Library Parking Lot
12-4 p.m. Sundays
6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • You can have current and future holds delivered to the Golden Bookmobile stop by choosing "Golden Bookmobile" as your pickup location. Or, you can have your holds delivered to an alternative library location.
  • Items will be held for seven days. If you have items that are “Ready for Pick-Up” at the Golden Bookmobile stop but are unable to make it, please call 303-235-5275 and staff will be able to assist you with extending the time.
  • Library book drops will be closed. You may return items to the Golden Bookmobile stop or an alternative library location.

If you have other questions relating to your holds please speak with a staff member at the Golden Library or call 303-235-5275.

Create a Lasting Legacy with the Golden Library Remodel

by:
Rebecca Winning

Jefferson County Library Foundation (JCLF) and Jefferson County Public Library (JCPL) are teaming up to offer naming opportunities in conjunction with the Golden Library remodel.  Library patrons can help to provide 21st-century library services in the Golden community, while ensuring that their generosity will be recognized for years to come.

Multiple naming opportunities are available, enabling donors to pay tribute to their relationship with the Golden Library or to honor and recognize someone special in their lives.

  • Naming opportunities range in value from $5,000 to $30,000 and give donors the opportunity to name major library areas and amenities.
  • Name recognition opportunities range from $1,000 to $10,000 and give donors the opportunity to be recognized for providing access to updated technology in the library.
  • Individual donations are welcome as well and will be recognized on a special donor wall inside the library.

Moneys raised through the naming program will support enhancements to the building and its amenities. For more information on the naming program, contact Rebecca Winning at 303-275-2203 or Rebecca.winning@jeffcolibrary.org, or visit jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel.

Golden Remodel Coming Soon!

by:
Cindy

Exciting things are underway at the Golden Library as remodel construction is set to begin March 20 to provide Jefferson County’s first 21st century library.

The library will be closed from March 20 through June 11 to accommodate the construction and library staff members are busy making alternative service arrangements for Golden residents.

Beginning March 1, you can check out the new floorplan and photos of new furniture and fixtures at a display outside the Golden Library. The new design reflects input received from Golden residents at community meetings held last summer. Here are some things you can expect to see:

• A larger, more open children’s area, with a “literacy playscape” to encourage informal learning during play;
• A larger teen area, equipped with enhanced technology;
• Updated technology in the public access area;
• Enhanced technology in the meeting room, to support public presentations;
• More informal spaces for community interaction and exchange, including a community living room (with a fireplace!);
• A large quiet area;
• A study room; and
• An opening day collection, with more of the materials residents are requesting.

While we hate to close the library, we’re doing our best to maintain our most popular services during the construction period.

The cost of the remodel project is being shared by the City of Golden and Jefferson County Public Library.

The library – with a fresh, new look -- is expected to reopen at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 12. For interim updates on the construction and information on where to find alternative services and programs, visit jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel.

Update on the Golden Library

by:
Carroll, Golden Library

The Golden remodel project is moving along! As we look at the library with fresh eyes, it’s exciting to see how things are taking shape with the design. You’ll see many of the things you mentioned in community meetings: an open feel, collaborative spaces, quiet spaces, and a redesigned children’s area.

Marcel Proust said, “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” The voyage we are undertaking with this remodel will bring a fresh look to the library and hopefully, allow you to see the treasures inside with new eyes. As we finalize floor plans and furniture selections, we'll post pictures here and in the Golden Library.

Golden Remodel: Progress

by:
Carroll Mannino, Golden Library Manager

If you visited the Golden Library recently, you may have noticed a few new chairs that you could test out and provide feedback on. This is part of the design process as we continue to work on the floor plan and furniture selection for the Golden Library remodel. When we have final floor plans and furniture selections, we'll post pictures in the Golden Library and here on this blog to share with you.

In the meantime, please let us know what you're thinking about the remodel by submitting a question in the drop box at the library. Keep watching here for updates and further details.

Golden Remodel: Design Concepts

by:
Carroll Mannino, Golden Library Manager

"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it's really how it works."
- Steve Jobs

Whether it's reimagining a computer or a library, people strive for the trifecta of good design: comfort, beauty and function. As part of the Golden Library Remodel, we are redefining our spaces for maximum impact and to provide patrons of all ages with an area of the library that fits them just right. To that end, our design concept includes zones for different purposes:

  • Quick – holds, self-checks, high interest material and a service point that can be seen from the entrance.
  • Collaborative – flex space that supports collaborative work, a teen area, and a group study room.
  • Busy – high interest material, a multi-purpose meeting room that can accommodate large and small groups, and a children’s room with a more open entry way and a literacy playscape.
  • Communal – seating areas spread throughout the building, computers and a business center with fax/copy/print/scan capabilities
  • Quiet area

We expect to have a final design, including a floor plan and carpet, furniture and fixture selections by mid-August. I’m excited about how the plan is coming together and can't wait to share the final design with the community.

Once the design is in place, the Library expects to begin construction sometime between October and November. In the meantime, watch for updates and further details at jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel.

Golden Remodel: We're Listening

by:
Carroll Mannino, Golden Library Manager

It's not too late to participate in the Golden Library remodel. We'll continue to use suggestions from the community to shape the direction of the design. Stay informed during the remodel by checking jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel and by dropping questions into the comment box inside the Golden Library.

We are fortunate to have many people from the community provide input into the remodel. From May 19 through June 9 Golden residents shared their ideas at community meetings and through online and paper surveys. During those conversations a few common themes emerged:

Residents use the library to

  • Borrow material, especially movies and books.
  • Use the children's area and material.
  • Pick up holds.
  • Attend storytimes and other programs.

They like and value

  • The community feel of the library.
  • Location.
  • Friendly staff.
  • Quiet spaces for studying.

They hope to see

  • More comfortable seating.
  • Views and light.
  • A redesigned children's area.
  • An open feel.
  • Spaces for groups, both big and small, to meet.

You may be asking yourself "How is the library using all of this rich input?" These ideas were distilled into a preliminary floor plan and design concepts previewed at the June 6 community meeting. Elements of the preliminary design included:

  • Quiet room and group study room for quiet spaces.
  • More seating that is spread throughout the building.
  • Concentrate seating around windows and natural light.
  • The possibility of a multi-purpose meeting room that can accommodate large and small groups; including children's groups.
  • Lower shelves for an open feel.

Keep your ideas flowing and stop by the Golden Library to let us know what questions you have about the remodel.

Help Us Out with the Golden Remodel Design

by:
Bethany

Missed out on the Open House at the Golden Library regarding our upcoming remodel, but still want to share your thoughts? Not to worry, you still have a chance to give your input on what'd you'd like to see from us...and what you don't want to see. We're looking to the community to tell us about the library services you value, and to help define the look and feel of the remodel design.

You can still take our survey through the City's Golden Vision Community Forum. You'll need to create an account, but it's as easy as 1-2-3. This networking tool will give you the opportunity to weigh in on the Golden Library Remodel, as well as other community projects, and to hear what others are thinking.

Thanks for your input - we're excited to see what the community has to say! We will be hosting a design feedback session from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, June 6 to get your thoughts on design options.
