Step Inside the Golden Library Remodel

by:
rebecca

We are half-way through the Golden Library remodel. There are new areas where we will highlight parts of the collection, cozy seating areas, a redesigned children's area, places for groups to meet and collaborate, a quiet area and a more open feel.

(Movies, audiobooks and music will be featured front-and-center in the library.)

(We combined two rooms into one to become the new Teen Area. There’s more space for the collection and a place for teens to gather.)

(That’s the new digital, 3D fireplace.  We can’t wait to pull up a comfy chair in front of it.)

(New and high-interest material will be the first thing you see when you enter the library.)

We are eagerly anticipating the opening date in June when we can share the new space with the community and provide a place to come together to connect, discover and create. In the meantime, we love seeing you at the bookmobile stops on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays as well as the programs held at various places in the community. For interim updates on the construction and information on where to find alternative services and programs, visit jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel. You can also keep up with the remodel by visiting us on Facebook.

Make your own miniature garden

by:
cindy

Have you ever made a terranium? A terrarium is sort of like an aquarium, but for plants instead of fish. This miniature garden is usually made in a glass container and plants are added to create a mini garden.

We'll be making terrariums using mason jars, rocks, dirt, plants, and other trinkets to create a unique miniature garden for yourself or to give as a gift (hint: Mother's Day is coming!)  Special thanks to Timberline Gardens in Arvada for donating the supplies for this program!

Tweens and teens welcome! Ages 10-18.

Summer Reading 2015 Launch Party & Celebrity Read-a-thon May 29

by:
cindy

** Sign up to be reminded when Summer Reading kicks off on May 29!

It’s almost summertime! Sandals, swimsuits, and sunshine abound and the last thing on most kids’ minds is school. But, summer goes by quickly and before you know it, swim bags are traded in for backpacks and sandals for tennis shoes as families prepare to head back to school. You can help exercise your children’s brains by participating in the Summer Reading program.

It doesn't matter what you read! Summer is about fun and there is something fun for everyone waiting at the library.  Children younger than six use singing, playing and games as they begin to learn to write and read.

Mark your calendar and attend the free Launch Party and Celebrity Read-a-thon! Summer Reading and registration opens with a kick-off at the Jefferson County Administration Building. Local celebrities will read a 3-minute excerpt from their favorite books and literary characters, including Spiderman, Hogwarts Faculty, Tigger, Star Wars, and more, will be on site at celebrity photo booths to take pictures with you! Our library storytellers will share some wonderful story times for the kids, too!

Friday, May 29
3-6 p.m.
