It's almost here...the Golden Library is nearly ready to open and we can't wait to show you!

Mark your calendars to attend the Golden Library Grand Reopening.

Sunday, June 14
noon to 5 p.m.

Our staff will be available to showcase features of the Library and you can sign up to join the 1,000,001-minute Summer reading Challenge and receive prizes (while supplies last).

The Library will be open for business on Saturday the 13th, but the ribbon cutting and grand reopening is planned for Sunday the 14m (to minimize competition with the Golden Music Festival being held right across the creek).

Whenever you come, we're looking forward to showing off our new spaces and reconnecting with old friends!

See you soon!

Wow!  We are just one week into the Read 1,000,001 Minutes Challenge, you’ve surprised and shocked us all!

We knew Jefferson County liked reading. We knew you liked Summer Reading. But clearly, we  didn’t set the bar high enough.

So, we’re raising the bar – let’s go for 10 million minutes!

Your enthusiasm is creating an infectious energy throughout the county and we want to keep it going!

The Summer Reading Challenge runs through August 14. Get your family and friends to sign up. Challenge them to read, log minutes, and win prizes!  We award our first 98 prize winners this week, with more than 2 million dollars in donated prizes to give away throughout the summer.

Weekly prize drawings, ranging from movie tickets to Karate Birthday Parties, from martial arts lessons to concert tickets, from Rheinlander’s Bakery Cakes to free meals at area restaurants are just waiting to be given away to anyone who is registered and logging time each week.

And, to keep things interesting, we’re add surprizes.  We have secret “reading shoppers” in the community looking for readers. Get caught reading and you could win!

Thanks for playing, and let’s hit that 10 million minute goal!

Special Savings for Jeffco Teachers!

by:
MacKenzie

We know that our teachers go above and beyond when it comes to helping their students out, including paying for teaching materials and school supplies for their students out of pocket. We also know that teachers are some of the biggest supporters of early childhood literacy and that many classrooms have their own small libraries for students.

We want to show Jeffco's teachers just how much we appreciate everything they do for our community's kids. That's why we're giving teachers the chance to fill up not one, not two, but THREE grocery bags of books for only six dollars each!

That's right! On May 30 between 2 – 5, teachers are getting their own exclusive bag sale. All you have to do is show us your school ID when you check out and you can get three grocery size bags of books for only six dollars/bag! This means fewer people to deal with (Sundays can get a little hairy) and a much better selection of books!

The Spring Whale of a Used Book Sale is May 29th-31st at the Jefferson County  Fairgrounds. We’ll be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Sunday. Keep an eye on our blogs to find out how you can save even more at the Whale Sale!

Help Us Kick Off Our Summer Reading Challenge!

by:
Rebecca

We are hosting a Celebrity Read-a-thon from 3-6 p.m. on Friday, May 29, at the Jefferson County Administration Building, 100 Jefferson Parkway, in Golden. You're invited to attend to help us kick off our 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge and win prizes!

Local celebrities -- including congressmen, county commissioners, mayors, chamber of commerce directors, educators, sports figures and media personalities -- will participate in the read-a-thon to share excerpts from their favorite books and invite Jeffco residents to take part in the 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge. Kids, teens and adults can mingle with local celebrities, take "selfies" with literary characters, attend Library storytimes, sign up for our Summer Reading Challenge and receive prizes. We'll have ASL interpreters available at the event, and we've even arranged to have some food trucks at the event so you can enjoy the event and a quick meal!

The 1,000,001-minute Summer Reading Challenge will continue from May 29 through August 14. Participants who sign up and log their reading minutes on jeffcolibrary.org can win prizes throughout the summer and will be entered into a grand prize drawing to win a Leapfrog tablet (for one lucky pre-reader) or a Kindle Fire HD (for one lucky child, teen and adult).

This year’s Summer Reading program is supported by generous contributions from the Jefferson County Library Foundation and Colorado Parent Magazine. Grand prizes were donated by John Bodnar, Noviscon Realty; Julia Hill-Nichols, LeadersCove LLC; Arvada Mayor Marc Williams and his wife Luanne; and Dot Wright and Roger Miller. System wide prizes and coupons were donated by Bandimere Speedway, Beau Jo’s Pizza, Colorado Rapids, Lakeside Amusement Park, McDonald’s, Casa Bonita and Whole Foods. And a special thanks to FirstBank for supporting the Celebrity Read-a-thon event!

Online sign-ups for the Summer Reading challenge begin May 29. You can sign up to be reminded here and continue to visit jeffcolibrary.org for more information.

Coming down the home stretch in the Golden Library remodel

by:
carroll

The major construction elements for the project are complete, painting is done and the new carpet is installed. We can see the finishing touches that indicate the library’s re-opening is quickly approaching – most notably the furniture that is being installed. We can see things come to life that we’ve only imagined on paper up to this point.

As we gear up to re-open the library, we will be winding down the alternative services we’ve been offering in the community. The last storytime at the Golden Community Center was May 30 and the final bookmobile stop will be June 9. It’s been fun to see you, our Golden patrons, during the closure and it will be even better to see you in the new library space once we re-open.

We will open on Saturday, June 13 at 10 a.m. and are very excited to share this updated library with the community. The grand-opening celebration is Sunday, June 14, noon-5 p.m. There will be refreshments, the Summer Reading REaD carpet and more. We hope to see you there!

For updates on the final stages of the remodel visit jeffcolibrary.org/goldenremodel.

Summer Reading is underway and with it comes a host of amazing programs.  As part of the City of Lakewood’s INSPIRE Arts Week, we are hosting a special program revealing the stories behind some of America’s most famous paintings, photography and sculpture.

Throughout its history, the United States has produced bold and conic art as diverse as its people. Join us for a discussion of our nation’s great masterpieces as art historian Heidi Strang, Ph.D., reveals the stories behind famous American paintings, photography and sculpture.
