Join us at Standley Lake and Arvada Libraries to welcome the Arvada Police Department as they give a brief introduction to their SHARP course.

The Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP) course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of women, teaching principles and strategies for effectively reducing the likelihood of assault through actual techniques for countering an attack. Utilizing efficient and effective methods of subject control that do not rely on size and strength, PPCT Management Systems, Inc. has developed a training system that can be used by just about everyone who is interested in personal safety.

In other words, just because you are small and female, doesn't mean you can't defend yourself!

Participants will be able to learn more about signing up for the three session course, which is free to Arvada residents at the following events:

Standley Lake Library on Saturday, May 11th at 2pm

Arvada Library on Saturday, May 18th at 2pm

This month's Read It / See It at Arvada Library is based on Victor Hugo's 1865 novel, Les Misérables.  Long considered one of the greatest novels ever written, Les Misérables follows the life of ex-convict, Jean Valjean, who becomes a force for social justice and compassion in a France that is rife with extreme poverty and class disparities.

The novel has been adapted to the stage and screen many times throughout the years, with one of the most famous being the 1980 stage adaption by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boubel which ran from March 1987 to May 2003 with 6,680 performances!

We shall see the most recent adaption starring Hugh Jackman, Russel Crowe, Amanda Seyfried and Anne Hathaway.  Please join us!

Two Words:   STAN LEE

Yes!  That’s right fearless fans, Stan Lee will be at Denver Comic Con May 31st – June 2, 2013.  If you didn’t get a chance to go to the inaugural DCC last year, definitely make an effort to go this year.

There are great booths to visit, artists to chat with, and panels to sit in on to learn all the ins and outs of your favorite graphic novels and comics.  And of course you don’t want to miss the cosplay, cuz it’s so much fun!  (Remember!  If your costume has a ‘gun’ – you need to have an orange tip attached…just sayin’.)

Other featured guests for the three day event include:  George Takei, Greg Guler, Felicia Day, George Perez, Wil Wheaton, Jeffrey Brown . . . Tickets for Teens range from $12 for a one day Friday pass to $30 for a three day pass.

The Stan Lee Silver and Gold Add On packages will be available later at a mysterious price to be determined later.  So get your tickets now, and then check the website compulsively until they post the Stan Lee info!

If you go, and you’re in costume, make sure you post a pix on our Facebook page!  Hope to see you!
